CBD, scientifically recognized as Cannabidiol, is one of the main cannabinoids found in cannabis or marijuana plant, Cannabis Sativa.

It’s gained a lot of popularity in the past few years, with some scientific studies confirming the myriad medical benefits it offers to patients worldwide.

It is known to treat medical conditions like chronic pain, epilepsy, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and even cancer. A lot of patients who have used cannabis in the past have claimed that they benefited from the hemp and are now advocating for its use.

However, when it comes to CBD, it is important to mention there are only a handful of studies that support its medical claims. A lot of the research is still underway, and experts need to carry out more experiments to establish a connection between any medical condition and CBD.

The Relationship between CBD and Sleep

As mentioned before, CBD does not only claim 100% to cure physical conditions like chronic pain, it does however help with pain and also helps with mental conditions like anxiety and sleep disorders.

In one Brazilian study, 57 men received either oral CBD or a placebo 90 minutes before they underwent a simulated public speaking test. The researchers found that a 300-mg dose of CBD was the most effective at significantly reducing anxiety during the test.

The placebo, a 150-mg dose of CBD, and a 600-mg dose of CBD had little to no effect on anxiety.

Delta 8 THC, a derivative compound of CBD, has risen in popularity and people are turning towards it to treat their sleep disorders. The question that arises here is whether CBD can actually help you sleep or not?

When you consume CBD, it interacts directly with your endocannabinoid system and strikes a balance in your body.

The endocannabinoid system is what is responsible for regulating memory, appetite, fertility, and sleep in your body.

In theory, CBD can help you regulate your sleep as it directly affects your endocannabinoid system. Also, there are several studies out there in which people suffering from sleep disorders have shown significant improvement after taking CBD.

However, without learning about the causes of sleep disorders, we cannot say for sure that it can help the patients sleep better.

What Causes Poor Sleep?

Poor sleep is caused by a number of factors and could also be a side-effect of a medical condition.

According to medical experts, sleep disorders are mainly caused by:

  • Medicines
  • Mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD
  • Chronic pain and a number of other physical conditions
  • Excessive consumption of caffeine
  • Work Stress
  • Poor Schedule

If your sleep disorder is caused by these external factors, then Delta 8 THC for sleep might be effective for you.

Anxiety is one of the main factors that disturb sleep, and a study conducted in 2019 has shown positive effects of CBD on anxiety. A total of 72 people took part in the study, and were given 25mg of CBD every day for a month.

Prior to the study, 25 participants were suffering from insomnia, and the other 47 were dealing with anxiety. The results showed that around 80% of the patients reported reduced anxiety, and 67% of them were able to sleep better. This is a clear indication that delta 8 CBD for sleep can actually help you sleep better.

Similarly, another study published in 2018 reported that there is significant evidence that CBD can help reduce pain and improve the sleep cycle of patients.

Another study from 2014 indicated that CBD could help fight grogginess caused by insomnia. CBD is since known to prove wakefulness not just in humans but in animals as well.

How CBD Improves Sleep?

As mentioned above, more than one study has shown CBD’s positive effect on sleep, but none of these studies has connected CBD directly to sleep.

The researchers of all the above studies have stated that a lot more research is needed to establish a direct connection between sleep and CBD. It is true CBD helps with some of the conditions that cause sleep disorders, but experts have to do more to find out how CBD affects sleep directly.

If you think your sleep disorders could have been caused by the reasons mentioned above, you could give Delta 8 THC for sleep a try to improve your sleep cycle. If you are experiencing severe insomnia, then you must consider consulting a doctor as well.
