About the Book: A Cannabis Romance

She’s Taking a Break is the story of Annie McGrath, a “sophisticated stoner” who flees her high-profile life in LA with her rock-star husband to return to her childhood home right here in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While home caring for her dying stepfather, Annie is forced to confront her past—specifically the boy across the street who is now a priest at the local parish.

Described as a contemporary romance about what happens when two sisters, one priest, and a rock star smoke a joint, this story elevates a heroine who is strong, empowered, and an open cannabis consumer.

Meet the Author: Joyce Gerber

Joyce Gerber is a “force to be reckoned with” in the Cambridge community. As the former executive producer and host of the award-winning podcast The Canna Mom Show, Joyce has spent years advocating for the normalization of cannabis and caregiving. Joyce was inspired to write this novel after meeting countless women in the cannabis world who wanted to see themselves accurately reflected in fiction—as sophisticated, capable, and cannabis-loving.

When she isn’t writing or advocating, Joyce is a multi-talented creator who has managed a rock band, ran for local political office, and creates beautiful quilts.  She lives in Cambridge with her family and holds degrees from Northeastern, Tufts, and Connecticut College.
