This summer 2023, installation will begin on Rich Gomez’s Slow & Steady Turtle Mural located behind the Kush Groove Dispensary at 701. Mt. Auburn St. in Cambridge, MA .
This epic 80 foot mural along the wall of Fresh Pond Reservation’s Cambridge-Watertown Greenway will feature a large, bold, illustrative image of a land turtle in natural life, representing the natural life that exists within the lands of the reservation.
We invite you, members of the broader Cambridge, Watertown & Belmont community to take part in this exciting project which will open and be available to the public as soon as September 2023 and continue on view for years to come.

Gomez’s natural life illustration will be spray painted in a graffiti-style medium, to be made into a full-scale mural. The Cambridge-Watertown Greenway behind 701 Mt. Auburn Street – the wall space that runs under the Belmont St. bridge – will be stenciled and prepped, then painted by the artist on the high stone walls, to create a masterpiece that highlights the natural life of the Fresh Pond reservation through artistic expressions.
This piece of art will be the first of its kind in this space since it was redeveloped into a bike-pedestrian path, less than 3 years ago. The artwork will activate the area by bringing an artistic beautification to the path that will inspire more dedicated art projects along the greenway. It will inspire and bring joy to the thousands of residents, patrons and visitors who pass through the greenway every day and attract new visitors as a new cultural attraction in Greater Boston.
The Slow & Steady mural will be completed sometime around September 2023 and will be formally introduced to the community with a celebration ceremony at a date to be determined later. The celebrations will include the premiere of the artwork, a short speaking and video presentation, arts and community centric programming led by Arts in the Park, a non profit programming partner based in Cambridge, as well as a musical guest to perform against the backdrop of the mural, under the bridge.
We expect over 30 volunteers will take part in putting together arts related programming as part of the celebration. It will be a community celebration in Strawberry Hill like no other.

Be part of a major community art experience this part of town has never seen. The image that makes up the Slow & Steady mural will be 80 feet long and created in a “street graffiti” style, in which the piece will be stenciled first on the brick canvas, and then painted around afterwards.
